Air purifier claims exaggerated

Manufacturers' claims about air purifiers on sale in Hong Kong overstate their cleaning ability by as much as 17 times, tests by the Consumer Council found.

None of the 10 machines tested by the council could clean as big an area as stated, while some also had inadequate insulation, posing a risk of electricity leakage.

Boy badly hurt after falling into washer

A 16-month-old boy is in intensive care after falling into a top-loading washing machine at his home in Kwai Chung yesterday.

The toddler fell into the machine as it was operating and his 26-year-old mother found him upside down in the water, police said.

He was in serious condition in Princess Margaret Hospital last night.
