Oscar Pistorius older brother Carl also facing murder trial

Carl Pistorius, the older brother of South African star athlete Oscar Pistorius has been charged with culpable homicide over a car accident in 2010, local media reported on Sunday.

Locked-in syndrome patient dies peacefully days after losing euthanasia bid

A British man left paralysed but fully conscious and aware of his predicament died yesterday, days after losing a legal bid to end his life of "pure torture", his lawyers and family said.

Tony Nicklinson, 58, who had locked-in syndrome as a result of a stroke he had while on a business trip to Athens in 2005, died of natural causes.

Club hostess on probation for killing newborn girl

A nightclub hostess who killed her newborn baby when she put it into a toilet bowl to stop its crying and smothered it with a bed sheet was placed on probation for two years yesterday.

Chong Ching-yuet, 27, who pleaded guilty to infanticide in the Court of First Instance, must also receive psychological and psychiatric treatment as deemed necessary by a probation officer.

Waitress guilty of throwing baby into toilet

In the early hours of a Tuesday in September last year, Chong Ching-yuet, a 27-year-old nightclub waitress who had checked herself into a Mong Kok guest house for the night, awoke with severe stomach pains. Five hours later she gave birth, alone in her room, to a healthy baby girl. By 2.27pm, the baby was declared dead, found lying face down in the toilet bowl.

Maid held after baby's body found

A Filipino maid was arrested after a baby's body was found in a sewage pipe at a Tseung Kwan O flat.

The body was found by a plumber sent to clear a blocked drain at the flat in Oscar By the Sea on Pung Loi Road. A police dog found a placenta in a nearby stairwell.
