Swire, Hong Kong Ferry to press on with new home sales

Market fears of a total halt in sales of new homes were dispelled yesterday after Hong Kong Ferry and Swire Properties said they would proceed with the sale of their new projects when new rules on flat sales take effect on Monday.

The subsidiary of Henderson Land Development said yesterday that it would put the Green Code project on the market next month after obtaining sales consent from the government, which it expects shortly.

More than 200 artworks created by 91 local artists are on display at the International Finance Centre (IFC) and will be put up for public auction later this month.

Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) has denied its leading shareholder Henderson Investment has plans to privatise the company.

A Hong Kong Ferry spokesman said there had been no significant change in the stake held by Henderson.

Industrial rentals fuel HK Ferry fall

Loss-making ferry services and a decline in rental income drove interim profit at Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) down 24.3 per cent to $70 million.

Hong Kong Ferry said that during the six months to June 30 the operating loss on ferry services - largely incurred from the franchised routes - rose 3 per cent to $16.6 million from $16.1 million a year earlier.

HENDERSON Land Development is the holding vehicle for Lee Shau-kee's companies, controlling Henderson Investment and through it Hong Kong Ferry (Holdings) and Hong Kong & China Gas.

Last year Standard Chartered Securities recommended a buy, saying it had the most undemanding valuation of the major property companies.
