Turning Hong Kong into Asia's arts hub is an ambitious goal. It took more than a decade for our city to hammer out a master plan for the HK$21 billion West Kowloon Cultural District project.

Artistic impressions

Finally, it appears, the long-awaited renovations at the Fringe Club's heritage premises on Lower Albert Road will go ahead. I first heard about this project about three years ago when its management told me they had secured HK$24 million from the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the work. It was all quite exciting.

Fringe Club makeover finally on the cards after 26 years, thanks to HK$3m donation

It's been a long time coming, but Central arts hub, the Fringe Club, is finally getting a makeover in July. But before the refit was approved, honorary treasurer Anson Chan had to step in with a HK$3 million donation to top up the non-profit's operating budget.

Wan Chai houses to turn into arts centre

Six pre-war houses in Wan Chai will be turned into an artists' commune, with each of the 20 flats shared by more than one art group to create round-the-clock activity.

The Urban Renewal Authority, which is in charge of the heritage project, said it came up with the idea after learning from other art centres that lacked vibrancy.
