No holes barred in bid for cheap public flats

New public housing units will not be provided with front-door metal gates under a Housing Authority cost-saving plan, the Legislative Council was told yesterday.

Secretary for Housing, Planning and Lands Michael Suen Ming-yeung said in a written reply that the measure was approved in June and covered all new public rental flats, including those under planning or construction.

Hsin Chong takes on $1.06b job

Hsin Chong Construction Group's wholly owned subsidiary Hsin Chong Construction has been awarded a $1.06 billion contract for the Tung Chung Area 30 phase two project by the Hong Kong Housing Authority. The project, to be completed in two years' time, will comprise six, 41-storey residential blocks.

Contracts suspended

Tak Wing Investment (Holdings) says its wholly owned construction arm, Wan Hin Co, has been suspended from tendering for further new work and maintenance work contracts for six months as of December 1 last year.

Wan Hin is appealing against the Hong Kong Housing Authority's decision.

$499m housing tenders awarded in HK

THREE contracts together worth almost $499 million have been awarded by the Hong Kong Housing Authority.

The largest, worth $191.95 million, was won by Wecon and involves the redevelopment of the second phase of the Pak Tin estate at Shek Kip Mei.

Plans call for the construction of 638 homes in three 14-storey blocks.

I AM a resident in Lai King Estate and am concerned about the policy of the Housing Authority.

Recently, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HKHA) decided to renovate the old vacant rooms in some housing estates and give them to the people who live in resettlement areas.

Go bilingual

ALMOST every government department in Hong Kong is bilingual. Therefore, it is surprising that the Hong Kong Housing Authority uses only Chinese. All the circulars which are posted for the information of tenants are always in Chinese. I am a non-Chinese tenant.
