Heavenly Creatures

This is the first Hong Kong solo show by Shanghai-born artist Ann Yen, who has exhibited in New York, Singapore and Beijing. Yen creates near-abstract paintings of figures and scenery, executed with simple, lucid colours, lines and strokes. Open daily 10am-9pm. Good news for photo buffs. fotogalerie central is the newest space in Central dedicated to shutterbugs and collectors. Set on the roof garden of the Fringe Club, fotogalerie central is officially opening its doors with a bash tonight (July 6). Kicking off the festivities are two new shows, Viva Forma - Nudes & Plants by Almond Chu (left), and 810 Old Hong Kong Photos.

Selecting exhibits for Galeriasia's show Passage To India was difficult, says curator Sally Lai, as she wanted all the paintings - their styles and colours - to complement each other. She also had to keep her choice diverse enough to be interesting.

Refurbishment works at visual arts centre

The Urban Council has a message for artists who use its facilities in Hong Kong Park.

The council's Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre at the park will be partially closed until November 28 for improvement works.

A council spokesman said the improvement works would involve the sculpture studio for metalworkers and the studio for stone and woodworking.

Artworks offer insight into teenagers' world

An 'all-local' art exhibition which aims to give youths a chance to understand themselves and express their ideas will be staged at Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre and Breakthrough Youth Village.

'Stinky Socks Milk Tea Vs Cocktail Bun' is presented by the Cultural Pavilion at Breakthrough Youth Village and the Fringe Festival '97.

Fine art made accessible

Disabled people will be able to demonstrate their creativity in various branches of the fine arts with a special free programme to be held at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre from April to June.

The programme, 'VisABILITY '96 - Art for the Disabled Programme', consists of 22 workshops in different art media.
