Shanghai is moving forward with a number of infrastructure projects that had been mired in a corruption scandal, giving rise to speculation the commercial hub is back in the good graces of the central government.

Chief's arrest knocks New Huangpu shares

Shares of Shanghai-listed New Huangpu Real Estate, one of the city's largest property developers, fell 2.33 per cent amid reports that the head of its major shareholder was arrested for alleged rule violation in a share sale and involvement in a widening scandal related to the city's pension fund.

Nanshi plans cable car project

SHANGHAI'S Nanshi district, which includes the southern Bund area, plans to build a cable car system to Pudong across the Huangpu River to boost retail activities on both banks.

The district is seeking foreign funds for the US$700 million project which will include the 88-storey Nanshi office tower.

Huangpu district: the new downtown area

JLW has defined Shanghai's Downtown district as extending westwards from the Bund to Chengdu Road, incorporating all of Huangpu district, in addition to the eastern portion of Luwan district.

It is bounded to the north and south by Beijing and Fuxing roads respectively, and includes the Bund precinct and eastern Huaihai Road precinct.
