Designer has split personality working for two Bosses

It's not easy being a designer. There are clothes, models, media and buyers to deal with, and their delicate nerves may occasionally need a break. Hugo Boss designer Eyan Allen was in town last week, and it seemed he had good reason to rant about his work schedule.

Eye on the cool

Berlin Fashion Week, now in its third year, attracts its fair share of celebrities, including Justin Timberlake, Sienna Miller and Adrian Brody. This year, however, the most wanted man in town is British designer Eyan Allen. Teutonic tenacity takes over

A decade ago, fashion pundits would surely have scoffed at the idea that Germany might provide desirable fashion labels by the end of the millennium. The extraordinary success of Jil Sander and Hugo Boss - plus Escada, which caters for a less restrained, glitzier sector of the market but is very popular in Hong Kong - has demonstrated what Teutonic tenacity and quality can achieve.

Italian style inspires temptation

MEN'S fashion buyer for Lane Crawford, Mr Stephen Shek, would never have bought his clothes from the department store's menswear department a few years ago and neither would his friends.

But times have changed and as far as Lane Crawford menswear is concerned, the reason for those changes have been Mr Shek's acknowledged talents.
