MTR to study parallel subway for Island Line

Hong Kong's next big railway project could be the proposed North Island Line - a controversial HK$10 billion backup subway parallel to a busy section of the MTR's Island Line.

Or it might be a new route that makes a loop of the East Rail and West Rail lines in the New Territories, by connecting the latter's Kam Sheung Road Station with the former's Lok Ma Chau.

Chaos at Hung Hom MTR is dangerous

Further to the recent letters concerning the chaos at the Hung Hom MTR interchange, I would like to outline three major concerns.

Firstly, West Rail passengers travelling to Tsim Sha Tsui East now face a disruptive journey. Secondly, they face a substantially longer travelling time. The third concern is that of safety.

What do you think of the new MTR link?

I live in Tai Wai and go to work in Tsim Sha Tsui from Monday to Friday on the East Rail Line.

I am extremely unhappy with the new arrangements. I now have to change trains at Hung Hom for Tsim Sha Tsui.

While there are frequent flights from Chek Lap Kok to the more far-flung destinations on the mainland, regular trains, ferries and buses from Hong Kong provide a handy solution to travellers.
