Public works trial to aid early issue of occupation permits

Developers may be issued occupation permits for developments up to two months faster thanks to a novel pilot scheme by the Works Bureau aimed at speeding up construction.

During a six-month trial, beginning this week, developers will be able to choose from a list of approved contractors to carry out public works on their projects.

Beijing threat on sewerage contract

A SENIOR mainland official says China is 'very likely to reject' any alternative sewerage plan proposed by Hong Kong if it means awarding the contract to Jardines.

The official said the Chinese Government would not want to see 'another container terminal episode' - a reference to China's outrage over the contract awarded to Jardines for Container Terminal 9.
