Canucks bounce back to defeat Devils

Cory Schneider’s return to Vancouver started with a standing ovation.

 It ended with his former team celebrating its third straight come-from-behind victory.

 Jason Garrison scored at 2:18 of overtime on Tuesday and the Canucks bounced back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the winless New Jersey Devils 3-2 in Schneider’s first game against his former team.

Flyers fire head coach Laviolette

The winless Philadelphia Flyers sacked head coach Peter Laviolette just three games into the regular season, the National Hockey League club announced Monday.

Assistant coach Craig Berube will replace Laviolette as the coach of the Flyers who dropped to 0-3 with Sunday’s 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Flyers have scored just once in each of their three losses.

Miikka Kiprusoff retires from NHL

Miikka Kiprusoff is leaving the NHL and the Calgary Flames on his terms.

The veteran goalie announced his retirement on Monday after 12 NHL seasons, the last nine with the Flames - the club with which he wanted to finish his career.
