Drug dealers are increasingly smuggling heroin into the mainland via Hong Kong from drug-production areas of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, a senior customs agent says.

$4m worth of heroin seized at border

Updated at 3.17pm: Customs officers said on Friday they had seized seven kilograms of heroin from a truck coming into Hong Kong from the mainland.

The seizure - with a street value of over $4 million - was made at the Man Kam To border checkpoint in a joint operation by customs officers and the police Narcotics Bureau, a statement said.

CHINA handed over to Hong Kong police two men wanted in connection with drugs and theft offences. The pair aged 25 and 27 were arrested in Shenzhen on August 25. One was allegedly involved in drug trafficking in 1992, the other in a theft case which occurred in 1993.
