Google frustration gives tattoo fan Alex a bright idea for a magazine

Six months ago, 23-year-old Hong Kong resident Alex Lendrum was contemplating getting a tattoo, but had no idea where to go. A Google search yielded results, but also dozens of queries from local English speakers also at a loss over where to go for some body ink.

'I realised then this city was missing a guide, and a voice, for the tattoo scene,' he said.

Tattooist Chow Pui-sze's usual canvas is human skin, but for a new exhibition at The Studio, Sze C, as she is known, decided to use canvas as her canvas. Her seven-painting display, called Mesmerizing Mermaids, opened on Friday at the Peel Street gallery and runs until Sunday.

Ink attack on lawyer

Police are looking for two men who splashed ink on a lawyer in front of the District Court in Wan chai on Wednesday.

The victim, Neil Mitchell, who was prosecuting a fraud case, was leaving for lunch when he was doused with black ink.

A witness said Mitchell was taken to the hospital with the side of his face a bit red.

Exhibition illustrates how tattooists turn their art to canvas

A unique new exhibition in town is called Skin:Inks. It's a collection of 28 life-size canvases of wild tattoo designs done on semi-naked portraits. The idea is to showcase 14 top local tattoo artists by giving them the freedom to explore a body on canvas - as opposed to skin.

I was more excited about Acecad's DigiMemo A501 before I actually saw it than after, although it is a great little device. In short, the DigiMemo allows you to write with normal ink on to normal paper, and then save it to a digital file and upload it to a PC.

Would you get a tattoo?

No way. I'm a very sensitive person who is even afraid of going to the dentist, so the idea of having my flesh pierced by dozens of needles is not appealing.

Also, tattoos are forever. I get bored easily. I'm sure I'll get tired of the tattoo in no time but will be stuck with it for life.
