Official's eight-year trail of corruption

Details have emerged about the corruption case against a former senior official in Inner Mongolia who was jailed for life this month for taking more than 8.17 million yuan (HK$10 million) in bribes over eight years.

Senior official gets life for bribery

Former Ningxia vice-chairman Li Tangtang has been jailed for life for taking bribes.

Chongqing's No 5 Intermediate People's Court found Li, 56, guilty of accepting 7.68 million yuan (HK$9.1 million) from 1998 to 2009.

Before serving in Ningxia from May 2008 to October 2009, Li had various government posts in Shaanxi province over 30 years.

Shanghai tycoon to be sentenced on Friday

Disgraced Shanghai tycoon Chau Ching-ngai will learn his fate on Friday when a verdict is due to be passed on his trial of embezzlement, bribery and tax fraud.

Shanghai's No 2 Intermediate People's Court informed Chau's lawyer, Ma Shuning , yesterday that verdicts for the embattled magnate, once dubbed 'the richest man in Shanghai', would be handed down on Friday.

Trio sentenced to death

The Intermediate People's Court in Xian, Shaanxi province, has sentenced Lu Benqun, 21, Wang Xiaoming, 21, and Zhu Pingdong, 17, to death for robbing and killing Taiwanese tourist Chou He-tian in a forest near Xian on May 13 last year. Three other unidentified accomplices who were all under 14 were sentenced to re-education through labour, Xinhua reported, according to AFP.
