Cut in IDD charges seen

Mainland telecommunications operators expect to cut international direct dialling charges substantially next year as the market opens to competition, according to a telecoms industry official.

IDD rates under new pressure

International Direct Dialling (IDD) operators are under pressure to cut charges following a decision by fixed-line operator New World Telephone to slash its rates from today.

The new rates are between $1.89 and $3.89 for calls to North America and anywhere else in the world between 9pm and 9am on weekdays and all day Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Telecom cuts international dialling rates

HONGKONG Telecom yesterday announced its plan to ease international direct dialling (IDD) rates to popular destinations by more than 10 per cent.

The move, which has been approved by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, means the average decrease in IDD rates for the coming year is likely to be about two per cent.

Debate continues over IDD

Extend cheaper calls to China

WHEN the Government concluded its negotiations with Hongkong Telecom in mid-1992, the public was led to believe that International Direct Dialling charges would be eight per cent cheaper on average later this year. But I feel betrayed by recent developments.
