Debate among architects about whether buildings should be 'interesting' or 'good' is long-running and heated. Japan's Arata Isozaki, who is helping revitalise the historic Central Market, has weighed in by contending that Hong Kong has more than enough iconic structures.

Developers brought back down to earth

Central Plaza, the 78-storey skyscraper run by Sun Hung Kai Properties in Wan Chai North, has many distinctions to its credit. Among these is the record for Hong Kong's tallest building, a title which it held until 2003 when Two IFC - in which its developer SHKP also has a stake - was completed.

Year-end display needs sponsors

Two main sponsors of the city's spectacular year-end fireworks display will pull their support after this year's event.
