Millard charge on TT warpath

What a week this is for Triple Trio players with a thrilling $34 million jackpot at Happy Valley tomorrow night and then a supersonic $73 million at Sha Tin on Saturday.

Mind you, it is going to take some working out tomorrow night with three extremely competitive fields allocated to races three, four and six.

Allan's team in revealing session

Master mentor Ivan Allan looks as if he means business on this afternoon's Chairman's Prize card.

It is nearly always a good sign when Allan breezes his runners the day before their intended starts.

Yesterday he had 11 of his 17 runners out and about on the Sha Tin work tracks and a number of them have been looking good.

Marcus factor takes guesswork out of TT

Bank on Basil Marcus in the opening leg of tomorrow night's Happy Valley Triple Trio.

The five-time champion jockey has few peers round the idiosyncratic city circuit and few peers when it comes to getting one to run into the placings.

Win to prove Invincible

IT is well worth taking a chance with the David Oughton-trained Invincible in the first race tonight and the stayer will be at good odds with Win Chung Lai-fong in the saddle. The fact that Chung is riding will put many punters off, but the girl is almost worth her 10-pound claim these days as she has developed into a useful rider through a race and is gaining confidence in a finish.

Oughton's rising stars steal show

ENGLISH handler David Oughton enjoyed a highly successful campaign last season and is almost certain to do so again aided, not least, by the presence of the world's finest rider, Mick Kinane as his stable jockey.

Manley's to break through

MAIDEN Manley's Star has gone close to losing that tag at his past two starts but a step up in distance to 1,800 metres could do the trick in the seventh event at Sha Tin today.

Irish whiz seeks a fitting farewell

THE incomparable Mick Kinane can go out with a winning double at Happy Valley's Grand National meeting this evening.

Ping's Star to shine

MANLEY'S Star has been given the perfect draw from which to take this afternoon's fifth event on Sha Tin's Gold Cup card for trainer Wong Tang-ping and jockey Eric Legrix.

It has often been significant in the past when Ping has looked to the French contingent with both Gerald Mosse and Legrix having a good record for the stable.

Four Winds to blow hot

FOUR Winds (nap) can upstage some better fancied rivals in today's fifth event at Sha Tin.

There is likely to be a stack of money for Manley's Star on the basis of his last-start second to Invincible but the Topspeed ratings coming out of that race are nothing special, even if it appears that Manley's Star is on the upgrade.

20 Mar 1994 - 12:00am

Manley's Star a banker bet

TRAINER Wong Tang-ping supplies the logical banker for the second leg of tomorrow's Double Trio at Sha Tin with well-graded youngster Manley's Star.

The four-year-old really woke up last time out when finishing second at big odds to Invincible over this same 1,600-metre trip back on January 22. He was a length and three quarters away from the winner having been badly drawn.

Jharna looking just right for Swinburn

VISITING international riding star Walter Swinburn can continue where he left off on Saturday by taking tonight's opening event on the Happy Valley grass on the Ivan Allan-trained Jharna (Nap).

Swinburn was in terrific treble form at the weekend, riding the tricky Valley circuit as if he'd been doing it all his life and looking every inch the world-class jockey that he is.

Threesome in the book for another day

PLENTY of good runs in yesterday's second event at Happy Valley for those looking for a future winner - aren't we all? Alex Wong Yu-on produced Radiant Sun for a very handy win towards the back end of last season over 1,400 metres at Sha Tin and the way he shaped when staying on to be third to Invincible yesterday there should be another Class Five victory in this son of Nassipour.

Missile targeted for a cruise home

CRUISE Missile can put Dean McKeown back in the winners' circle by taking this afternoon's fifth event on the Happy Valley grass.

The chestnut is now in peak condition, following two runs back, and looks the type to make a fair amount of progress this season.

He always worked really well last campaign, but managed just the one win.
