US jets under fire, says Iraq

Baghdad said yesterday it had fired surface-to-air missiles against United States warplanes policing the no-fly zones in Iraq, but failed to hit them.

'Iraqi air defence men have confronted the hostile aircraft by firing surface-to-air missiles,' a Defence Ministry spokesman said on state television. He did not say when attack took place.

Weapons team changes tack

New York: The United Nations has called off a weapons inspection mission in Iraq after it was barred from approaching one site for more than two days, and has begun a new mission to investigate Iraqi methods of concealment.
