I refer to Jake van der Kamp's column ('Support our local exporters? But we've exported 'em all', February 12).

He said that the Trade Development Council 'was set up to promote goods made in Hong Kong, full stop'.

I really would not mind my former colleague (at Sun Hung Kai Securities) Jake van der Kamp having a regular dig at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, if he would at least get his facts right ('What, exactly, is left for the Trade Development Council to develop?' April 14).

Business heavyweight Jack So Chak-kwong will spearhead Hong Kong's efforts to fight off competition from Macau for convention business as chairman of the Trade Development Council.

His appointment, to a two-year term, was announced yesterday. He takes over from Peter Woo Kwong-ching on October 1.

Jack So Chak-kwong, the former deputy chairman of PCCW, denied yesterday his resignation was because of the company's poor operating performance.

Mr So's resignation, effective on April 30, had been linked to the fact that PCCW failed to meet the internal business target for last year.

Jack So won't quit PCCW amid talk Richard Li wants him out

PCCW chairman Richard Li Tzar-kai wants deputy chairman and managing director Jack So Chak-kwong to quit, according to a source close to the tycoon, who added that Mr So's discretionary bonus for last year was cut by 65 per cent by the company's remuneration committee.

However, Mr So insisted he was not resigning.

So flushed by streak of bad luck

It hasn't been a good month for MTR chairman Jack So Chak-kwong.

After the outcry over his system's eight breakdowns, So recently found himself in an even more embarrassing situation during the ground-breaking ceremony for the new airport station at Tai Kok Tsui attended by the press and business tycoons.
