Ad moves to own beat

WE read with interest your syndicated article about the use of Janis Joplin's song in Mercedes-Benz advertising in the United States and Hong Kong (Sunday Morning Post Agenda, April 2). Just for the record, the decision to use the song for Hong Kong was made independently of the US, and with the support of our client, Zung Fu Company, the Hong Kong distributor of Mercedes-Benz.

I REFER to Mr Tony Read's letter on the subject of the Zung Fu advertisement (South China Morning Post, December 12). Unfortunately I think that both Mr Read and Zung Fu may have missed the point of the song which accompanies the Mercedes advertisement.

Music review

Various Artists - Wayne's World 2 (Reprise).

YOU can't judge a book by its cover, and that should presumably extend to CDs.

Here's the exception.

This mess was put together as a piece of product to accompany the movie, rushed out so quickly the track listing was wrong, forcing Reprise to slap corrected labels on the jewel box.
