Rare success by Crusaders

KOWLOON Cricket Club's Crusaders recorded only their third victory of the season in the Hong Kong Cricket Association's Connaught Saturday League yesterday.

Playing on their home ground at Cox's Road, Crusaders beat Police Sentinels by 10 runs to move on to 69 points from 10 games.

Roger makes Kitchee jolly

A HAT-TRICK from Brazilian Rogerio carried Kitchee to a 4-0 win over Club in a Hong Kong First Division match at the Shamshuipo Sports Ground last night.

The 26-year-old striker from Coritiba was on target in the 19th, 75th and 80th minutes to earn his side three precious points.

Error-prone territory concede first defeat

SINGAPORE installed themselves as favourites to win the third Asian Championship at the Hong Kong Sports Institute last night.

Singapore and Hong Kong went into last night's round robin match unbeaten but the hosts faltered in the second half to lose 45-38.

Switch of venue for round two

THE Korea Football Association have switched the second round of Asia Group D World Cup qualifying games next month from the Tongdaemun Stadium to the Chamshil Olympic Stadium in Seoul.

The five-team group, which includes Hongkong, played the first round of games in Beirut, Lebanon, from May 7-15.

Tough test for Trophy players

THE Hongkong Cricket Association last night agreed to stage a four-team tournament to provide some tough cricket for their International Cricket Council Trophy squad.

A quadrangular tournament will be held in the territory in November involving two Hongkong sides, the Bangladesh national team and a representative side from Sri Lanka, probably at under-19 level.

O'Brien leaves Centaurs looking half a team in cup

OPENING batsman Seamus O'Brien wasted no time in powering Gap Ramblers through to the second round of the Saturday League's Butani Cup yesterday.

Playing at his home ground at Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, O'Brien cracked a 59-ball 90 in only 52 minutes to steer Ramblers to an early nine-wicket victory over Centaurs.

Sai Wan take over from Crusaders

LITTLE Sai Wan beat title rivals Crusaders by 79 runs yesterday to take over at the top of the Hongkong Saturday League.

Sai Wan picked up a maximum 12 points from the victory at So Kon Po while restricting previous leaders Crusaders to two bonus points.
