Goldsmith puts seal on love affair with HK

Seventeen years ago, Christoph Wellendorff (pictured) and his wife came to Hong Kong for their honeymoon. The German goldsmith, who had just joined his family business, Wellendorff Gold Creation, fell in love with the city.

'I knew then that one day I'd open a Wellendorff shop here in Hong Kong,' he said.

Police are investigating four suspected thefts of gems on the opening day of the city's biggest international jewellery show yesterday.

Two mainland men were arrested on suspicion of stealing a seven-carat diamond worth US$450,000 after allegedly swapping it for a fake.

Mainland duo accused of taking HK$2.7m diamond ring from shop

Two mainlanders allegedly made off with a diamond ring worth HK$2.7 million from a shop in South Korea and were later arrested when they arrived at Hong Kong airport. Mo Riming, 44, and Zhou Yaoxing, 43, each pleaded not guilty in the District Court to one count of money laundering.
