Quieter trams could easily be the norm on entire route

I have exchanged several letters with Hong Kong Tramways about the work undertaken on their tracks.

I have pointed out that when they repair rails by welding overnight, which does not cause any disruption to traffic, they usually make the broken rail joint even noisier.

Police hunt burglar of Wan Chai flat

Police are hunting a burglar who snatched a notebook computer, a watch, and cash worth a total of about HK$88,000 from a flat in Johnston Road, Wan Chai, yesterday. The 35-year-old owner of the flat woke at 4.12am to find his living room being ransacked by a man, who fled. Police said the burglar was about 1.65 metres tall and wore a black jacket and jeans.

Perhaps someone in the appropriate government department or district council would care to explain why the newspaper and magazine distributors operating out of trucks in Johnston Road, Wan Chai, have been exempted from the fixed-penalty littering fine.

Every weekday I see the road and pavement strewn with discarded wrapping material.

A burglar made off with spectacles frames worth $1.1 million from an opticians in Johnston Road, Wan Chai. The owner found a large hole in a rear wall when he went to open the shop.

Lorry accident kills woman

An elderly woman died after she was hit by a reversing lorry at the junction of Johnston Road and Stone Nullah Lane in Wan Chai at about 7am. Police said no identification documents were found on the woman.
