Mengniu sets up yogurt venture with Danone

Shares in China Mengniu jumped more than 10 per cent yesterday after the company said it will introduce the French dairy-foods maker Danone as a strategic shareholder, with the two firms agreeing to set up a yogurt joint venture.

A joint venture of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges will launch two new indices today and will this month allow the first batch of financial companies to use the indices for launching derivative products.

China Gas will inject its LPG distribution assets into the proposed joint venture.

The two firms were in advanced talks on setting up a venture to distribute liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) produced by Sinopec's oil refineries and sell compressed natural gas (CNG) at its petrol stations, China Gas chief financial officer Eric Leung Wing-cheong said.

China Exchanges Services, the HK$300 million venture equally owned by the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, Shanghai Stock Exchange and Shenzhen Stock Exchange, was officially set up yesterday.
