Time has almost been called on the career of veteran sprinter Joy And Fun, but trainer Derek Cruz hopes he will go out in a blaze of glory when he returns to Dubai next month for his fourth tilt at the Group One Al Quoz Sprint (1,000m).

Derek Cruz was reconsidering retirement plans for nine-year-old warhorse Joy And Fun, after his revitalised run in the Al Quoz Sprint at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai on Saturday night, while fellow trainer John Moore was left to ponder Frederick Engels' "disaster" in the Golden Shaheen.

When Joy And Fun kicked in front with less then 300 metres to go at the Dubai World Cup meeting, and Eagle Regiment went with him - they looked like fighting out the finish, but lurking behind them was Shea Shea - who peeled off the back of Joy And Fun and broke the track record in a devastating display.

Trainer Derek Cruz says Joy And Fun has "nothing left to prove" and will be retired after Saturday's US$1million Al Quoz Sprint - a race fellow Hong Kong-trained runner Eagle Regiment seems increasingly likely to miss for the second straight year.
