Japan's JVC has added to its popular Everio series with the GZ-MC500. Like the tiny hybrid's predecessors, the GZ-MC500 records to a micro disk drive, allowing for easy transfer of images and video to a computer for editing. But what is new are the three 1.33-megapixel CCDs - for better video quality - and a five-megapixel CCD sensor for capturing digital still images.

Foreign backers given go-ahead

Beijing approved 329 foreign-funded enterprises for the city in the first six months this year, with investment rising about 30 per cent year on year. Increasing levels of investment had gone to hi-tech industries, with 42 per cent of the projects in the service sector, officials said.
