Pfaff holds loss to HK$57m

EUROPE'S largest sewing machine manufacturer G.M. Pfaff posted a loss of 11 million marks (about HK$58 million) for the first half, compared with a loss of 12.9 million marks a year ago.

Pfaff sews up profit

GERMAN sewing machine manufacturer G M Pfaff AG yesterday reported a net profit of 10.2 million marks (HK$56.1 million) for the year ending December 31.

Restructuring undertaken after Semi-Tech (Global) took a 72 per cent stake in the company in 1993 reversed three years of losses.

GM Pfaff posts first-half loss

SEMI-TECH (Global) company G M Pfaff recorded a loss after tax of 12.9 million marks (about HK$63.19 million) in the first half, against a loss of 104.2 million marks in the previous period.

Staff was cut by 21 per cent or 1,261 people. Operating profit showed a loss of 8.9 million against 20.9 million in the previous period and sales were relatively static.

Semi-Tech deal moves on

SEMI-TECH (Global) said last night that its proposed acquisition of a 29 per cent stake in G.M. Pfaff had been passed by US anti-trust regulators, although it remained under consideration by regulators in Germany.
