Death toll in Indonesia boat sinking climbs to 18

The death toll from a boat accident in the Indonesian part of Borneo island rose to 18 on Friday with five people still missing, a provincial governor said.

The death toll in an outbreak of ethnic violence in Indonesian Borneo went above 60 yesterday.

Security forces, outnumbered by warring villagers, are struggling to control the trouble, which has seen three villages razed to the ground in the northwest of Kalimantan province.

Gold news pushes up share price

HONG Kong Macau Holdings yesterday attributed the massive share price jump in its associate company, Carrie Pacific Holdings, to the encouraging results of channel sampling at its Saran Hard Rock Gold Project in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Carrie Pacific's share price jumped from A$0.40 (about HK$2.20) to $0.80 on March 18.
