Who do you think you are?

There is no doubt that the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami was a catastrophe for hundreds of thousands of people.

Animal cruelty is wrong

I read a news story about some environmentalists in Australia who proposed killing the country's camels to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

This made me think about the status of humans. Currently, we are the masters of the planet. We are free to do whatever we wish with other animal species.

A selfish waste of water

I think we must take immediate action to prevent the continuous shortage of water, which is happening in parts of the mainland.

People waste water all the time. They only care about themselves and do not think about the water supply.

Count your blessings

Hongkongers live long, healthy lives and are generally financially secure.

Despite everything we have, our sense of well-being is often quite low.

Karma puts filmmaker on path to document a man's 'blind' crusade

Filmmaker Richard Todd is a strong believer in karma even though the subject of his new film spent years trying to convince a Bali community the concept is nonsense.

Thursday Thinktank

Five things we're all wondering about

1 Resident complaints prevent al fresco dining at Elements mall ... they think al fresco is an international terrorist network

2 DAB the big winner of district council elections ... so do they still think people aren't ready for direct election of their leaders?

Opportunities are yours if you stay positive

There are many opportunities in life, but we may not be able to make use of all of them.

Have Your Say

The agony of choice over school subjects

Am I the only person who gets confused about which class I should choose?

I like mathematics very much but I don't like science.

Everybody in my class knows I have a real block with science.

To prevent sadness, you must know the cause

I am writing about how to get rid of sadness in your life. You don't have to feel down!

To get rid of sadness, you must first understand what makes you unhappy.

Is it poor academic results? Or a poor relationship between you and someone else?

Spare a thought for the thinkers

As noted American anthropologist and writer Margaret Mead said: 'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.' Which is fine on paper, but really - who has the time?

The Enneatypes

One (perfectionist):

Positive mode: Hard-working, goes by the book, persevering, imbued with high ethical standards. Negative mode: Critical, judgmental, lacks flexibility, unwilling to change, overly conservative. Lesson in life: Learn to enjoy life and break out of the box.

Two (helper):

Why did no one lend a helping hand?

Do Hong Kong residents have any compassion for their fellow man, or in this case, their fellow woman?

I had a nasty fall outside the building where I live on November 4.

Burning issue for New Agers

Call us superstitious, but the New Age Shop in Central seems to have run into some bad karma.

For a store that prides itself on generating good vibes, it seems decidedly unlucky for it to have suffered some sort of spontaneous combustion - at least in part.
