Swimmer gets new dose of joy

A top local swimmer is hoping to make waves in a different arena.

Katie Lau King-ting, who gained a place in the University of Hong Kong under a sports scholarship scheme, aims to study medicine and eventually pass out as a doctor.

Bronze turns silver for two honoured swimmers

ASIAN Games relay medallists Katie Lau King-ting and Robyn Lamsam will share Hong Kong's Swimmer of the Year Award for women in tomorrow's prize presentation.

Katie and Robyn are members of the relay team who finished third in the 4 x 100 freestyle event in Hiroshima two months ago, but they are now waiting to collect a silver medal following the disqualification of China.

Tam makes mark

TAM Chi-kin set the only national record of the Hong Kong National Championships yesterday in winning the men's 100 metres breaststroke event at the Y. K. Pao pool in Aberdeen.

Tam set junior national and meet records in swimming one minute 8.98 seconds, beating Craig Li's 1991 meet record of 1:09.30.

FAST rising Katie Lau King-ting celebrated her recent call-up to the Hong Kong Commonwealth Games squad by stealing the limelight at yesterday's Mantas Invitational Meet at the Aberdeen Swimming Pool.
