Kenny G

The long curly locks, the irrepressible grin and the dim-the-lights jazz may have made Kenny G the butt of many jokes, but the man has form - and, lest we forget - fans in spades.

The G-Man looks to the east

In a short chat with Kenny G at the Four Seasons Hotel on his recent stopover in Hong Kong as part of his Asian tour, arguably the most commercially successful instrumental recording artist in history came across as warm and easygoing.

Songs in the key of G

You can learn a surprising amount about the way the music industry works from a quick chat with Kenny G.

Kenny in full swing

FOR reasons too hard for most sane people to fathom, jazz musician Kenny G has something of a cult following in Hong Kong. At the HMV shop in Causeway Bay over Christmas, the American saxophonist laid claim to the top two spots on the best-selling list with the same CD, ironically entitled Miracles and featuring soppy festive songs such as Away in a Manger.

No fan of Kenny G

PETER Sherwood's article ''A night of bad sax'' might have offended Penny Tsoukaris (Sunday Morning Post, November 14), who likes the type of music performed by Kenny G, but Sherwood has every right to express his opinion which, incidentally, is shared by many.

Hitting sour note

I AM in dismay at Peter Sherwood's ''A night of bad sax'', surely a completely irresponsible and time wasting article (Sunday Morning Post Magazine, November 7).

It is a one-sided, negative opinion which aims only to put down a world class music performance.

A NIGHT OF BAD SAX

THIS is a true story. It began with a 7.30 am phone call a few weeks back from a close friend.

'I'm going to make you an offer you can't refuse,' he said. It was early, at least for me, but even half comatose I am capable of seizing the day if it is set up for me and requires a minimum of effort.

'You mean a tonne of money and endless sex?' Silence.

Breathless Kenny blows into town

IT'S called The Breathless Tour and for Kenny G, his travelling roadshow is certainly living up to its name.

Currently in Australia on a five city tour, Kenny (the G stands for Gorelick) hit the road in March, starting with the US. He played Europe for two months, was back in the States in June for another four months, moved on to Australia and next on the itinerary is Asia.
