Darker dangers ignored in Hong Kong's youth drug abuse figures

Last week, Narcotics Commissioner Erika Hui Lam Yin-ming relayed the results from the Central Registry of Drug Abuse survey of local and international school students. Rather predictably, the number of reported and new drug users aged under 21 last year dropped by 20 per cent and 21 per cent, respectively, in comparison to 2011.

Girl, 16, jailed six years for drug trafficking

A 16-year-old girl was jailed for six years and seven months yesterday, after pleading guilty to trafficking 590 grams of ketamine disguised as packages of tea.

Chow Yuen-toa, who left school after Form Three and worked as a waitress and saleswoman, pleaded guilty to one count of drug trafficking in the Court of First Instance.

Ketamine users are taking to the sea to avoid detection following police success at flushing out party venues on land.

Marine police detained 59 people aged 15 to 53 and seized 32.3 grams of the drug after intercepting three pleasure boats in three separate cases in the past four weeks.
