Myanmar army, rebels trade claims over helicopter crash

Myanmar’s state media said on Sunday three army personnel were killed when a helicopter crashed in conflict-torn northern Kachin state, rebutting rebel claims that the aircraft had been shot down.

Active foreign interest and firmer yen result in gains

South Korean share prices closed higher yesterday on active foreign interest.

Brokers said market sentiment was also helped by a firmer Japanese yen and declining money market rates.

Speculation that Ford Motor might beat three bidders at the third Kia Motors auction further contributed to gains, they said.

Kia forms joint venture

South Korea's Kia Motors Corp has agreed to set up a joint-venture company with Jiangsu Yueda to produce knock-down units of its small-car line, the Kia Pride. Kia would invest 30 per cent, or US$45 million, in the joint-venture company which is to be named Yancheng Yueda-Kia Motors, Kia said. Kia will supply 25,000 knock-down units of the Kia Pride annually to the joint venture.
