Reward rises to US$2m for militant escaped killer

A Black Liberation Army militant who fled prison for Cuba after being convicted of killing a New Jersey state trooper in 1973 has been added to the FBI's "most wanted" terrorist list and the reward for helping to catch her doubled to US$2 million.

Wife dies in stabbing at busy restaurant

A man was arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife to death in a Chai Wan restaurant during the busy dinner hour last night. Police said the unemployed man, 57, approached the woman, 49, at Tao Heung Pier 88 in Paradise Mall at Heng Fa Chuen where she worked at about 7pm.

Family violence in Hong Kong mars reputation of a 'safe' city

Hong Kong is famously a safe city with a low murder rate. That gives an impression that all is well. Yet three apparently unrelated recent cases seem to tell a different story. They involve extreme violence and anger against family members, and they should not be dismissed as merely more instances of domestic violence.

The 18-year-old was arrested at his home in a Yuen Long village on suspicion of stabbing his father to death and attacking his mother. Police also arrested a 19-year-old friend of the man.

The younger son arrested over the killing of an old couple had a sad childhood and once did a screen test for a 3-D soft porn film. The man, 29, who briefly worked on Sing Tao Daily's property desk, approached the media on Wednesday saying his parents were missing. Police said yesterday they were killed on March 1.

Missing couple found dismembered in Tai Kok Tsui flat; two arrested

The dismembered remains of an elderly couple who vanished a fortnight ago were found in a flat in Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, yesterday after police arrested their youngest son and a friend. Their heads were found in the refrigerator and police recovered parts of three arms and four legs from the flat.

Girl, 4, sees mother bludgeon father to death

A woman was arrested yesterday on suspicion of killing her boyfriend with a hammer - witnessed by their four-year-old daughter.

The 32-year-old victim was found dead in a pool of blood at their Chai Wan flat yesterday with his penis partly severed, police said. Scissors were found nearby.

Before William Spengler opened fire on firefighters who had arrived to put out a fire at his home in the upstate New York town of Webster, killing two and seriously wounding two others, he typed a couple of pages announcing his plans.

"I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighbourhood I can burn down and do what I do best: killing people," Spengler wrote, police said.

Syria rebel attack on school kills 9 students, teacher: TV

A rebel mortar attack on a school in a camp for displaced people near Damascus on Tuesday killed nine students and their teacher, Syrian state television reported, branding it a “horrific crime.”

The broadcaster also reported 20 people were injured in the attack, but it was not immediately possible to verify their identities.
