Lotus packs punch in this season's F1 line-up

Lotus F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen

As the teams gather in Malaysia for this weekend's race, we have a much clearer idea of the Formula One pecking order. Once the chequered flag had finished waving in Albert Park there were a number of things the F1 fan had learnt.

Luck plays key role in Formula One success

Kimi Raikkonen

Luck. Some people dismiss it as mere superstition; others pay much closer attention. In the hi-tech world of Formula One you could be forgiven for thinking luck played no part, but of course it does. To win a world title you need many things, but no matter how big your budget or how clever your team is you definitely need a slice of luck.

Pit Stop

Now that the dust (or perhaps that should be sand) has settled after Bahrain, what have we learned as the teams check in to Melbourne?

Pit Stop

I'm off to Silverstone this weekend, and I can't wait. There is a very special atmosphere about the place which I love, and which I imagine is the very thing that makes Bernie Ecclestone hate it.

Pit Stop

It didn't take long for Fernando Alonso to revert to scheming and whining. The new season is only two races old and yet the Spaniard is already piling up the column inches after a decidedly mediocre start to the season by Renault.

Iceman takes pole on wheels of fortune

Formula One fans the world over were treated this year to one of the closest seasons ever, as three of the sport's top drivers battled to be crowned World Champion. The title race was taken down to the wire in the final round in Brazil, making it the first three-way last race title battle since 1986.

Fernando flies into history as prancing horse limps along

So here we are, the end of the Formula One season. For me it's been one of the best of recent years. A new world champion, some competition at the front of the grid and a constructors' title that is going down to the wire in Shanghai.

Alonso's emergence has restarted the jaded sport's engines

I have a model of a Renault Megane Cabriole car in my house. I've had it about a year now. In the last couple of weeks I'm sure the value of it has rocketed. The reason is on the front of the box. There on the clear plastic window, in a silver scrawl, is the signature of the new Formula One world champion. It doesn't look much like his name, but trust me, it is.

Aerodynamics rules need to be changed to make overtaking easier

Fernando Alonso is 24 on Friday. I'm not sure what you could buy a young man who has enough money in the bank to buy anything he desires himself. But last Sunday he was gifted a present that was worth more than anything that money can buy. His sixth win this season at the German Grand Prix means he is waiting for the world title more in expectation than hope.

Young racing driver in pole position for Formula One glory

Formula One star Kimi Raikkonen belongs to the latest crop of top Finnish drivers to come off the assembly line, but there is no denying his meteoric rise.

Just two years ago, the 23-year-old Finn was racing in the British Formula Renault Championship with Manor, winning the title after finishing on the podium in all his rounds.
