HK among first to screen Jackson film

Hot off the wire! It looks like Hong Kong might be one of the first territories to see the Michael Jackson movie This Is It. A California judge has approved the release of all interviews and film of the backstage rehearsals at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles that were preparation for Jackson's comeback concerts, which would have been held in London if not for his untimely death in June.

Aping original Kong

If Big Ape movies are your thing, then no doubt you already have an opinion about which is the better King Kong: the 1933 version starring Fay Wray as the girl, and Robert Armstrong as the guy who introduces her to the beastie, or the one shown tonight, the 1976 King Kong (Pearl, 9.30pm) which gave Jessica Lange her first major screen role, and also stars Charles Grodin and Jeff Bridges.

I am talking, of course, about the Business White Pages Telephone Directory , published by Hongkong Telecom.

Appalled by sadistic film

I CAUGHT the afternoon (Chu Kong Passenger Transport Co) ferry from Panyu near Guangzhou to Hong Kong on September 14, and was pleased to be told that a feature film with English subtitles was to be shown during the 13/4-hour journey.

Low in history

AN unfortunate misprint appears on a batch of tacky silver caps in Hong Kong promoting the HIStory album of Michael Jackson, making a comeback after his last tour was cut short by a police probe into his fondness for a young boy friend.

The black lettering emblazoned on the headwear says 'Michael Jackson - His Toy.'

Mission impossible

IT'S sincere to the point of boredom, but The Mission (World, 9.35pm) is also big on superb photography (though small on plot development). The power of this photography, much of it in remote actualities, will be lost on the small screen.

The lounge lizard's guide to dinosaurs

THIS summer's monster hit, Jurassic Park, is not the only film in Hollywood history to have captured the attention of the world thanks to our obsession with dinosaurs. These reptiles have been a major meal ticket for Hollywood for more than 90 years, starting with silent animated short subjects like Gertie the Dinosaur to straight-to-video features made this year like Prehysteria.
