Man, 33, dies after fall on Choi Hung Estate

A 33-year-old man was found dead in Wong Tai Sin yesterday after falling from Pik Hoi House on the Choi Hung Estate. Police found no suicide note and said they believed the death was not suspicious.

4,000 sign petition against piazza plan

More than 4,000 people have signed a petition since it was launched last month against the government's plan to demolish the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry bus terminus and turn it into a piazza, a concern group said. The Our Bus Terminal group tied red ribbons around parts of the terminus yesterday and plans to march to the Central Government Offices next week.

Star Ferry's licence renewed

The government yesterday renewed Star Ferry's licence to operate the ferry franchise between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui and between Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui for 10 years. The government said yesterday that the new licence, with clauses in favour of the environment, would come into effect on April 1.

Q What do you think of the Tsim Sha Tsui improvement plans?

I agree that Tsim Sha Tsui should be transformed into a Garden of Eden, but not at the expense of closing part of Nathan Road and its supporting roads.

That would create chaos. Millions of dollars worth of loading and unloading takes place on various roads in Tsim Sha Tsui throughout the day.

More imagination needed in urban overhaul

In the hands of government planners and architects, Hong Kong's public spaces have done little more than contain the required facilities, as though that is the end of the job. Design-wise, they are some of the least inspiring structures around. Tsim Sha Tsui's Cultural Centre, the Central Library in Causeway Bay and most of our public sports halls are examples of this.

Murder investigation

AN 18-year-old man whose body was found in a flower bed in Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, had a fracture to his skull and a cut on his neck. Police believe the man was murdered.

9 held over club bomb

Anti-triad detectives arrested another nine men in connection with the planting of a home-made bomb at the New Flower City karaoke club in Tsim Sha Tsui East last week.

The suspects, aged between 16 and 39, were detained in Sha Tin, Ma On Shan, Wong Tai Sin, Sau Mau Ping and Shekkipmei. They brought the number of arrests to 22.

New record by teenager

HUNDREDS of people crowded into a leading hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui recently for the Monopoly Charity Championship regional game.

Lo Wing-kai, 16, hit a record $12,851, a strong challenge for Sha Tin champion Ng Hon-yuen's $12,265. Wing-kai became the Tsim Sha Tsui champion, winning a dinner for two and a six-month television subscription from Wharf Cable.

Direct route

I REFER to Mr Peter C. L. Shan's letter (South China Morning Post, June 30), headlined, ''Bus service a long time coming''.

There is in fact a direct KMB bus route 271 between Fu Heng Estate/Chung Nga Court and Tsim Sha Tsui running at 10/15 minutes headway during peak periods from Mondays to Saturdays.

This route has been in operation since June 1992.
