Suspended jail term for assault on neighbour in lift

The nephew of Daniel Koo Shing-cheong, chairman of retail and manufacturing company Shui Hing (HK), was given a suspended prison sentence yesterday for attacking a neighbour in the lift of a Mid-Levels housing block.

Renowned composer Joseph Koo recognised for contribution to arts

Composer Joseph Koo Ka-fai, best known for the television drama theme tunes he penned in the 1970s and 80s, received the top honour at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards last night.

The shy 78-year-old was given a huge ovation as he was presented with the Life Achievement Award by Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen at the City Hall ceremony.

Veteran director Wilson Yip Wai-shun said shooting his new action film, Flash Point, was his most difficult experience yet. 'I'm totally relieved now it's over,' he sais. 'It's just like escaping from hell.

'The cast was constantly getting injured while shooting. Perhaps some of them were old injuries, because many of them had acted in other action films.

Tycoon's concubine sues over 'eviction'

The mistress of a shipping tycoon is suing her lover after he tried to kick her and their son out of the family home they have been living in for 18 years.

Yao Chin-chieh stated in a High Court writ filed yesterday that she had begun a relationship with Koo Kou-mingin in 1968 and had given birth to the first of their sons, John Koo Chee-an, the following year.

Image-use writ filed by composer

A veteran composer who used to take Beauty and Healthy detoxifying tablets is suing their manufacturer for allegedly using his image to sell the product without his consent.

Joseph Koo Ka-fai, 69, is suing Long Far Herbal Medicine Manufacturing for unspecified damages. He is also seeking an injunction forcing the company to stop using his image.

Lewis, Honorary Secretary of the RSPCA (South China Morning Post, December 8), should refrain from being narrow-minded in his response to Mr S. L. Koo's letter (Post, December 6). Mr Koo's comment is basically sound and reasonable.
