KPI forced to find new funds

KPI Co has been forced to find an alternative to raise funds after a proposed placement of new shares lapsed. The company said some conditions of the placing and subscription agreement were not fulfilled by yesterday's deadline.

KPI sees good growth

FERTILISER company KPI Co has posted sharply higher attributable profits of $30.04 million, up 72 per cent on the previous year.

The company said yesterday turnover almost tripled over the year ended March to $3.3 billion from $1.14 billion previously.

There were no exceptional profits - the previous year brought a $1.43 million exceptional item.

New issues make strong debut

KPI Co and Wing Shan International delivered profits of more than 60 per cent on their first day of trading on the stock exchange yesterday.

KPI, a fertiliser trader, closed at $1.49 against the issue price of $1.03. The one-for-five warrants ended at 86 cents, giving a package price of $1.662.

KPI bonanza

KPI Co has had its initial public offer oversubscribed 227 times. It offered 70 million new shares at $1.03 each and received subscriptions of just under $15 billion. Dealing is expected to start on Wednesday.

Listing for fertiliser firm

KPI Co is to raise $72.1 million through what is thought to be the first Hongkong flotation of a chemical fertiliser and agricultural products trader.

The company is issuing 70 million shares at $1.03 each. One 1995 warrant with an exercise price of $1.23 will be offered for every five shares taken.
