A young Hong Kong soprano has made history by becoming the first Hongkonger to win three opera prizes, following a week of competition in Austria.

When writer Kenon Kwong Chung-on met his girlfriend, fashion designer Melody Ma, for the first time, it was love at first sound.

Kwong, whose vision was impaired by glaucoma at a young age, had set up an interview with Ma in 2009 for a church magazine feature on do-it-yourself clothing and accessories.

Jockey Club suspends former HKEx chief

A former chief executive of the stock exchange has had his Jockey Club membership suspended for a year, reportedly after a dispute with a property tycoon heir.

All membership rights of Kwong Ki-chi were suspended for 12 months from December 12, the club said in a strongly worded notice posted at its Happy Valley Clubhouse on Shan Kwong Road.

Man dies after his car hits truck

A motorist died after his car slammed into the back of a stationary road maintenance truck in Tai Po early yesterday. Fong Ka-chung, 34, was driving along Tolo Highway when the crash happened outside Kwong Fuk Estate at 3.30am. Suffering multiple injuries, he was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital and declared dead soon after. The car was towed to a government vehicle plant for examination.

Mother 'suspicious' of dead woman's boyfriend

The mother of a woman whose body was found in a remote part of the New Territories last year said yesterday she became suspicious of her daughter's boyfriend after she had disappeared.

Kwong Wai-yee, 62, a widow, said that driven by her suspicions she had accompanied Dominic Soo Chun-sau, 33, every day to search for her daughter, aromatherapist Tracey Chan Fung-han, 36.
