Pupil wrote blog before death leap

Shortly before he committed suicide, a mentally disturbed high school student poured out his inner pain and anger in a 5,000-word internet blog. Wong Ling-fung, a Form Four pupil at Tung Chung Catholic School, jumped to his death on an outdoor playground there on May 24 last year as his schoolmates and teachers were gathering for morning assembly.

Man charged with burning paper on train

A cleaner appeared in Kowloon City Court yesterday charged with arson after he allegedly set a newspaper alight in a train to Sham Shui Po station on Saturday. No plea was taken from Yeung Tak-kwan, 44, of Tsuen Wan who had been a psychiatric patient at Kwai Chung Hospital, a prosecutor said. The case was adjourned to April 15.

Rethink on mentally ill moves towards care in the community

Care of mental patients is to be reviewed, a hospital chief said yesterday in response to accusations of cost-cutting at the facility. Kwai Chung Hospital has cut 100 bed spaces for the mentally ill, with two-thirds of the spaces reallocated to Kowloon Hospital last month.

Senior public doctor files complaint against boss

Claiming discrimination, a senior public doctor suffering from depression has taken his hospital chief to the Equal Opportunities Commission.

Edwin Yu Chi-shing, chief-of-service of the psychogeriatric team at Kwai Chung Hospital, is accusing the hospital's chief executive, Lily Chiu Lei-lei, of abusing her power and violating the Disability Discrimination Ordinance.

Mentally ill schoolboy, 16, jumps 31 floors to his death

A 16-year-old boy plunged to his death from a public housing block in Tung Chung on Lantau yesterday morning.

Wong Chun-pong, a Form Two student at Lai Chack Middle School in Tsim Sha Tsui, was found lying unconscious outside Heung Yat House, Yat Tung Estate, just after 7.30am.

He was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was declared dead.

'Pressured' pupil's suicide bid

A 17-year-old schoolboy who complained of being under pressure at school injected a mixture of bleach and detergent into his left arm in a suicide bid in Ho Man Tin yesterday.

The student at Lai King Catholic Secondary School called 999 after he used a syringe to inject the mixture in his 17th-floor apartment in Oi Man Estate, at about 10am. He was alone at home at the time.
