Community spirit is also needed when plans are announced to locate an unpopular public facility in a place near where we live or work. Facilities such as rubbish dumps and public toilets are necessities. We need them, cannot go without them, yet do not want them located near us. The so-called Nimby - or not in my back yard - syndrome, is preventing such facilities from being put in place.

Lan Kwai Fong Beerfest

Soccer fans seeking to drown their sorrows a week after the World Cup ended could do worse than the Lan Kwai Fong Beerfest, which returns this weekend for the seventh time.

Organisers say beer monsters can sample more than 100 different brews, while those who prefer quantity over quality can take part in drinking games with plenty of prizes on offer.

New Hard Rock in the Fong seen as beginning of the end for independents and diversity

With Hard Rock Cafe replacing The Cavern club and bar and the Hong Kong Brew House, and a two-year redevelopment of the California Entertainment Building and California Tower, Lan Kwai Fong will change quite a lot in coming years.
