Seafood smugglers arrested

Police arrested three Hongkongers, seized HK$1.2 million worth of seafood and impounded three sampans at Plover Cove Country Park. The men had been loading boxes onto a twin-engine speedboat at the So Lo Pun waterfront at about 12.45am. The speedboat, with two other men on board, sped off towards Shenzhen.

A housewife who stripped her four-year-old daughter naked in public as punishment was yesterday ordered to perform 120 hours of community service. Yang Lihui, 39, earlier pleaded guilty in Kwun Tong Court to ill-treatment of a child. On August 6, the girl was seen in Wan Hon Street, Kwun Tong, naked and covered with bruises.

Mother accused of child neglect

A woman, accused of having stripped her four-year-old daughter naked on the street, appeared in Kwun Tong Court yesterday charged with ill-treatment and neglect of a child. Yang Lihui , 39, did not enter a plea. On August 6, Chan Suet-man was seen on Wan Hon Street, Kwun Tong, naked and with bruises on her limbs and back, the court heard.

A photographer, but not a flasher

Married businessman Szeto Wing-fat did not think anyone was watching when he stripped naked in his car and photographed his genitals adorned with a hairband and plastic clips. But a neighbour could, and Szeto, 50, ended up in Kwun Tong Court charged with indecency. He pleaded guilty. Sentencing was adjourned. 'I am not a flasher,' he told the court.

Trainee medic fined for filming in toilet

A trainee doctor who filmed another doctor in a toilet was fined HK$4,000 in Kwun Tong Court yesterday. Chau Chun-chiu, 24, went to a ladies' toilet in Princess Margaret Hospital on July 30. A doctor saw a camera-like object held above the cubicle and a third doctor saw Chau leaving the toilet. He had earlier pleaded guilty to one count of loitering causing concern.

Cafe owner fined over acid leak

A cafe owner was fined HK$3,000 because acid he was using to clear a blocked kitchen drain sprayed through a cracked pipe and injured three people five floors below. Wong Kwun-hei, 32, pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Court yesterday to one count of allowing things to fall from a height. The incident occurred early on October 20 at the Dream Cafe in Mong Kok.

Teens accused over fatal attack

A 16-year-old appeared in court over the wounding of five teenagers, including one who died, at Wong Tai Sin Estate eight days ago. In Kwun Tong Court, Ng Wai-lun, a chef, entered no plea to conspiracy to wound with intent. A 15-year-old girl will appear in the same court today on the same charge.

Cook fined for 50 obscene calls to woman

A cook was fined HK$1,000 yesterday in Kwun Tong Court for making 50 telephone calls to a female financial consultant. Cheung Chi-ming, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of making persistent telephone calls between December 25 and January 7. The court heard he met the 27-year-old victim after seeking financial advice last year and repeatedly called her from his mobile phone.
