MTR Corporation will soon put new mainland-made trains into service on the Kwun Tong line.

The company has paid HK$1.1 billion for 10 trains from the Changchun Railway Vehicles Company. Four have arrived in Hong Kong and are undergoing tests, while the rest will arrive next year.

I am writing in response to the article 'MTR line ready to roll' which appeared in Young Post. An extension to the Mass Transit Railway's Kwun Tong line will connect Yau Ma Tei with Whampoa Gardens in Hung Hom. There will be one stop in Ho Man Tin.

I refer to the letter by D. Orelice ('MTR Corp has gone over the top with stream of announcements, February 28). Your correspondent was annoyed by the more than 15,000 verbal announcements passengers are subjected to on trains travelling on the Tung Chung Line. They include announcements about the next station and asking people to stand back from the door.

Air flow fears over MTR tower project

A green group has expressed concern about the short notice given to developers to express interest in a planned residential development above Austin Station, which the group says lacks planning restrictions and may reduce air flow.
