Sales pass 600-mark in industrial sector

Sales of Hong Kong industrial properties surged nearly 30 per cent to more than 600 last month, but the activity will fall to 500 deals this month, say property agents.

There were 627 deals clinched in August, representing 29.3 per cent more than the 485 deals recorded in July, according to Centaline Property Agency.

Man acquitted after death of witness

A judge intended to call for a retrial of a man convicted of nudging a woman with the lower part of his body on the MTR, but a key witness has died of an illness. Madam Justice Judianna Barnes Wai-ling acquitted Tung Sin-yung of indecent assault yesterday after he appealed to the Court of First Instance, saying it was unclear whether the man seen assaulting a passenger was Tung.

Policeman accused of drug trafficking

A police sergeant and two suspected syndicate members appeared in Kwun Tong Court yesterday over drug trafficking. The Independent Commission Against Corruption alleges Paul Lai Kwong-hing, 38, trafficked 17 grams of heroin at his home on Tuesday. Chu Kam-yuen, 47, and Wong Kam-pang, 45, both unemployed, were also charged with possession of apparatus intended for injection of drugs.

Store owner severely burned in blast

A grocery store owner, 53, was fighting for his life last night after suffering severe burns in an explosion that occurred when he was examining an electrical switch box in Kwun Tong. He went to check the box in a metre room near his shop on Cha Kwo Ling Road following a power outage in his store. He suffered serious burns to his head and body, and yelled for help.
