Gear change shows talent blossoming

Oh what a difference the addition of a simple piece of headgear can make.

The annals of turf are dotted with the names of gallopers who have achieved greatness with the assistance of blinkers - one can only speculate on man's own destiny if the same had been applied to a few lesser mortals.

Corollary to extend Whyte's hot run

Demon Douglas Whyte can continue the prolific start to his Hong Kong riding stint by scoring on Corollary in tonight's final event at Happy Valley. 'Power' of sense in following Lam stable

LOCAL handler Lam Hung-fie has already sent out a few runners to catch the eye during the opening exchanges suggesting that his vintage season of last term can be repeated over the coming months.

Age no barrier as Lane and Lam find their winning ways

THE old and the new were in fine form at a rain-soaked Sha Tin yesterday as trainer Geoff Lane and boom apprentice Francis K. S. Lam notched doubles.

Lane, who recently survived a grilling from the licensing committee, was a star jockey, a starter and a stipe before turning his hand to training in the late eighties.

Keep faith with Stallion

MY best bet is Winning Stallion and he can come good at the third time of asking this season in tonight's third event.

Trainer Lam Hung-fie has enjoyed a good start to the campaign and few of his horses have run better than Winning Stallion who has been most unfortunate not to prevail.

Lam off the mark with a double

TRAINER Lam Hung-fie was anxious to start the new season on a strong note and he did just that with a sparkling opening day double.

Lam is caught up in the current local trainers controversy and he has seen his stable numbers plummet from 60 some years back to less than half that number now.

TONY Cruz has done a lot of talking going into the new season, voicing the concern of the local riders over what they feel is the raw deal they get compared to expatriate riders.

Yesterday the talking stopped and the action started and Cruz was bang in the thick of it from the word ''go''.
