Medical Council suspends former HKU dean

The former dean of the University of Hong Kong's medical faculty was last night suspended from the medical register for nine months following his 2009 conviction for misconduct in public office.

Fraud case against ex-dean adjourned

District Court Judge Stanley Chan Kwong-chi adjourned the fraud trial of former University of Hong Kong dean of medicine Lam Shiu-kum to September 9 yesterday. Lam has been charged with inducing patients to make payments to his private company, misconduct in public office and the theft of HK$3.8 million. No plea was entered and Lam was released on HK$300,000 bail.

Lam Shiu-kum, 65, a former dean of the University of Hong Kong, arrives with his wife at Eastern Court yesterday, charged with inducing 20 patients to make bill payments to his private company, misconduct in public office and the theft of HK$3.8 million relating to donations. Lam faces 30 counts of fraud, three counts of theft and one count of misconduct in public office.
