Couple convicted over killing of baby daughter

A couple who hit and mistreated their infant daughter were yesterday found guilty of manslaughter over the baby's death.

Lam Wai-shu, 27, and his girlfriend, Chiu Mei-sze, 33, were found guilty by a jury in the Court of First Instance of one count each of manslaughter over the death of four-month-old Iris Lam Lok-yan on December 5, 2003.

Father tried to put baby in fridge to keep her quiet, court hears

A father annoyed by his premature baby's crying had tried to put her in a fridge to keep her quiet before she died in 2003, a court heard yesterday.

He also hit and shook her and gagged her with a rolled-up towel.

The court was told the mother had known what was going on but had not reported it. She also had harmed her daughter.
