The developer of the demolished Queen's Theatre says it will not allow shoeshiners to operate within the new premises as it is private property.

It also warned against them being allowed outside its perimeter as they might block fire engines and ambulances in the event of an emergency.

Disagreement turns ugly at exclusive club

The Hong Kong Club was yesterday the scene of a spat that saw a man admitted to hospital with bites to both hands. A fight broke out between the man, surnamed Lane, and a woman surnamed Tong, at about 10.30am. Ms Tong had taken a laptop to Mr Lane, 45, to check, police said. There was a dispute and Ms Tong, 47, bit Mr Lane's hands, drawing blood.

Driver's tyre claim rejected

Discarded tyres piled on a pavement obstructed a turning heavy truck that killed a 12-year-old schoolboy in January at Fairview Park, Yuen Long, a defence counsel argued in court yesterday.

But a government forensic expert who reconstructed the accident told the court that he found the tyres were placed well within the pavement.

Elderly taxi driver decapitated in crash with tow truck

A 70-year-old taxi driver was decapitated yesterday when his vehicle collided with a tow truck.

The accident happened at 12.40am when the taxi hit the truck while overtaking on a two-lane slip road off the Fanling Highway.

The two vehicles were heading towards toward Yuen Long on the Lok Ma Chau Interchange, a police spokesman said.

A truck driver described yesterday how he saw a double-decker bus driving too close behind a container truck before crashing into the back of it.

The collision in Yuen Long in February left a 42-year-old man dead and 12 people injured.

Truck driver guilty in death of woman

An experienced truck driver who ran over an elderly woman while reversing in a narrow lane in Sheung Wan was found guilty yesterday of dangerous driving causing death.

Sentencing for Tsang Yau-chuen, now 53, was adjourned until August 15.
