Workable cup loss ends poor season

Workable's first season in the top flight ended when they were eliminated 1-0 by Eastern in the opening round of the Lanwa International FA Cup at Mong Kok Stadium yesterday.

Record low as just 68 fans turn up

Only 68 fans paid to watch the First Division match between Lanwa Redbull and Happy Valley which ended in a goalless draw at Mong Kok Stadium last night. The official crowd was 117 - a record low for this season - with only 68 buying tickets for the end of season affair. Neither side was able to impress, especially Valley who were without four regular expatriates due to suspension.

Schutz proves worth to Caroliners

Brazilian striker Tales Schutz netted both goals in South China's 2-0 victory over Eastern in a Coolpoint First Division match at Mong Kok Stadium yesterday. The 26-year-old Schutz has been in fine form since returning to the Caroliners last month on a HK$1 million-plus transfer from Portuguese side Leixoes.

Chan at the double as Rangers take charge

Newly recruited Chan Ho-man helped Bulova Rangers move to the top of their group in the League Cup preliminaries when they beat Lanwa Redbull at Mong Kok Stadium yesterday.

The striker, who joined from Convoy Sun Hei early this month, scored twice for his new club as Rangers overcame the Dongguan-based team 3-0.

Eastern angry over snub for Galvao

Eastern team manager Peter Leung Shou-chi has slammed the decision to exclude their top scorer, Rodrigo Galvao, from the League XI for the Lunar New Year Cup.

The Brazilian striker hit his 11th goal of the season yesterday as Eastern held Lanwa Redbull to a 1-1 draw in their League Cup opening group match at Mong Kok Stadium.

Last gasp own goal stuns Kitchee

Kitchee defender Li Hangwui scored an own goal in the dying minutes as ten-man Lanwa Redbull defeated Kitchee 3-2 in a Coolpoint Ventilation Hong Kong First Division match at Mong Kok Stadium last night. Lanwa's Aldo Torres smashed a brace, while Chan Siu-ki and Goran Stankouski were on target for Kitchee as the match looked headed for a 2-2 draw with only seconds left on the clock.

Rangers axe 'under-performers'

Two expatriate players paid the price for Bulova Rangers' 9-1 loss to South China on Friday when they were sacked by the club yesterday. Fullback Bishop Owusu and forward Jacques Taninche were both shown the door for their poor performance against the Caroliners, while Yaw Anane and Jean Kilama were given stern warnings.

FA to probe 'fight'

The Football Association will ask Lanwa Redbull for a report on an alleged fight among their players after they were defeated by Eastern 2-0 at their home ground in Dongguan on Saturday. It is believed a fight broke out in the Lanwa changing room after the match. Several Lanwa players had accused their reserve goalkeeper, Liu Lei, of playing poorly and blamed him for the defeat.
